FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What laser technology do you use?
Leanne, who is a qualified laser removal technician, uses the AW3 Q-Switched ND Yag Laser System because it's best known to be the most effective tattoo removal system.
How does laser treatment work?
The reason tattoos are ‘permanent’ is because tattoo pigment is injected into the lower layers of the skin (dermis) and becomes locked away by a wall of collagen fibers. As a result the tattoo ink particles are too large for the body’s immune system to remove naturally, so the tattoo stays on your skin.
Q-switched lasers produce very short bursts of high energy laser light. The light is absorbed by the large ink particles, generating heat that shatters the tattoo pigment into smaller particles which the body is able to remove.
Is it safe?
Yes, it is a proven safe and effective technique. Because the tattoo ink selectively absorbs the laser energy, the surrounding skin doesn’t overheat and there is no lasting damage.
How long does it take to remove a tattoo?
Customers will see a reduction after the first treatment however to completely remove a tattoo depending on the ink colour and how deep it is in the skin it could be between 3-10 treatments For some customers, more sessions may be necessary for complete removal.
You can take a look at some examples in our gallery.
Can you talk me through the booking process?
You can book a consultation here, where Leanne will conduct a medical evaluation and a patch test, we will discuss a potential treatment and price plan with you before any patch test is carried out.
How much will it cost?
Costs vary based on the number of treatments you need. Contact us for an initial consultation and we can give you an estimate based on what you can show and tell us about your tattoo.
How long does each session take?
This depends on the size of the tattoo, a small tattoo may take 5 minutes, where as large or multiple tattoos could take an hour or more. Leanne will be able to give you full details during your initial consultation, once she’s assessed the complexity of the tattoo.
How long will I need to wait between sessions?
We need to wait 6 weeks between treatments to make sure the skin is healed sufficiently before treating again.
Does the laser cause scarring?
Although there is a risk of scarring with any laser, in most cases, scarring is not a significant risk for tattoo removal with ND Yag Laser. Tattoo removal has become associated with scarring because the older generation of lasers used for tattoo removal were very aggressive and carried a very high-risk of scarring. The ND Yag laser does not heat the surrounding skin significantly and the risk of scarring is much reduced. The risk of scarring is mainly associated with a genetic predisposition to forming scars tissue and the presence of resistant, green pigment. To reduce the risk, we carry out an extensive medical evaluation to identify high risk clients.
Is there any special care I need to take of my skin?
We highly recommend no sun exposure to the area for 30 days before and after treatment as exposure to the sun (including sun beds) can prolong the healing progress and cause the area to blister. We also recommend after the treatment to moisturise with Yayo Laser serum up to 3 times a day.
Is there anything you won’t provide laser treatment for?
We cannot provide treatment for semi-permanent eyeliner as the laser can damage your eyesight.
We will provide treatment for all skin types as long as you are in good health and do not have hypo/hyperpigmentation, tanned or keloid scarring in your or your family’s history.
What extra safety measures do you have in place during the current pandemic?
We have always insured that our studio is cleaned to the highest degree before and after each and every client. We have HEPA filters in each room of the studio to help purify the air, there is a hand sanitiser station before entering the studio and more stations available throughout. We ask that every client who enters the studio to put on shoe covers and a face covering before entering. No ‘under the mask’ services are being offered as an extra precaution and this will continue until the legislations change.
All staff wear necessary PPE and we work on a booking only basis for all services to make sure we do not have many people in the studio at one time.
